Animal Models In Ocular Gene Therapy

While gene therapy considerations and trials date back several decades, technological innovations in recent years have led to a boom in the industry. There are currently over 30 ongoing trials for treatments addressing retinal diseases. However, only one AAV-based ocular gene therapy to date has received regulatory approval. While the pathway for similar products to initial clinical trials ought to be straightforward, it is important to consider the different in vivo studies to conduct and the insights to be gained across various animal models.
Both rodent and non-rodent studies — including non-human primates, rabbits, minipigs, and canines — present benefits and limitations for preclinical studies. Learn more as this webinar shares insights to optimize the path to clinical trials.
