Safe Syringe Solutions For Lipid Nanoparticles

The increasing complexity of biologic drugs and vaccines is creating new challenges for prefilled syringes (PFS), and Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are among these emerging drug technologies.
LNPs are predominantly used for vaccines, but new applications are in the pipeline.
Currently, limited information is available about LNP formulation stability, and insufficient stability and compatibility data on the viability of transitioning from vials to PFS for LNP-based drugs.
PFS containers would enable easier administration, improve dosing accuracy, reduce the number of steps during injection, and reduce the risk of injury, among other benefits.
To provide pharmaceutical partners with pre-screening tools as they develop new LNP drugs, Stevanato Group designed a PFS evaluation study in partnership with the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences of the University of Padua, Italy. The study’s findings show that Stevanato Group’s cross-linked syringe solutions – whether glass or polymer – are an ideal fit for LNP-based drugs.
